Heroic Monarch Migration

Jerry Schneider, inventor of the award winning Butterfly Game, has presented nature programs in schools and libraries for the past thirteen years throughout the Eastern United States. His program is a wonderful slide show that takes a look at interesting features about butterflies (did you know that they taste with their feet?), distinguishes moths from butterflies, and teaches audiences how to bring butterflies into their backyards and gardens. Audiences will learn about the amazing Monarch migration to Mexico, with incredible photos of Monarch butterflies clustering by the thousands in Oyamel fir trees in the high mountains of Michoacan. The program concludes with a wonderful butterfly tee shirt craft.

Mr. Schneider, a former teacher and children's librarian, invented the Butterfly Game in 2001. It received a Parents Publication Award in 2004. Jerry is a steering committee member of the Vermont Butterfly Atlas Project, a 5 year study of butterfly populations in Vermont. He lives in Hardwick, Vermont.
