The Varnum will be participating alongside 103 Vermont libraries in the Killington Library’s Dragon and Egg program. Stop by the library and help our dragon find it’s eggs! Contest runs from 9/16- 9/25. Pick one of the options to complete and get a prize and also be entered to win the grand prize of a Folkmanis baby dragon puppet.
Option 1: For those youngest among us that are ready for adventure but not yet reading, come into the library and search for dragon eggs. Each egg contains a letter. Your adult will help you unscramble the letter to spell out the secret word. We really did lose three dragon eggs in the library so there are paper backups.
Option 2: For those that want a walking adventure, get your first clue on the display case in front of the library (starts Friday 9/17 afternoon). Follow the trail through town. On each clue there will be a letter in a circle. Unscramble the letters and bring the code to the library.
Option 3: And for those mobile friends, take your adventure on the road. Bring your camera and capture all the requirements below. You must be in each of your pictures. Show your adventures
-Every adventure needs a map. Take a picture of you at a trail head.
-Dragons love caves and snugg places. Take a picture of yourself in a place fit for a dragon.
-Dragons are known for their ability to breathe fire. Take a picture of something Used to contain fire.
-Dragons love their gold and treasure, what can you find that is golden?
-This dragon is missing its egg. Can you find one?
-Now the adventure concludes. You have used your map to find a dragon home, egg, gold, now find three dragons in town. These can be dragons/references big or small, in a name, or any reference you can document. Document your findings.
Option 4: Writing prompt- write a poem or short story about a dragon’s lost egg
Whatever option you pick, share your adventures with the library staff and get a prize. You will also be entered to win the grand prize of a Folkmanis baby dragon puppet. This event is in conjunction with 100+ other Vermont Libraries and Killington Library Vermont Fairy Tale Festival.
