The average U.S. household produces more than 20 pounds of household hazardous
waste every year, which breaks down to about 4 pounds per person (US EPA). This
includes a slew of materials such as paint, solvents, vehicle fluids, pesticides,
herbicides, and household cleaners. While some toxics are unavoidable and require
special disposal through household hazardous waste collection events, others can be
avoided entirely and replaced with simple, yet effective non-toxic alternatives.
In this workshop, we will talk about the ins and outs of household cleaners, including
how to read and understand labels, proper storage and disposal, and recipes for
different non-toxic alternatives. We will also talk about the magic (or science) of bio-
enzyme cleaners and how they work. During the workshop, you will have the
opportunity to make your lemon multi-purpose surface cleaner. Materials will be
provided.
