Programming Specialist/Associate

The Varnum Memorial Library is a central hub of community engagement and enrichment. The Varnum staff and Board strongly support the development of an inclusive, enriching, supportive and engaging environment which serves the Cambridge, Jeffersonville and surrounding communities. As a small, rural, incorporated public library, the Varnum requires a candidate who feels a strong commitment to working as part of a team and one who can be flexible in various capacities. The strong candidate is one who is self-motivated and can also support a common goal as a dedicated team member.
The Programming Specialist/Associate will work directly with the Library Director to develop and implement meaningful programming at the Varnum. This position requires flexibility of scheduling and the ability to differentiate offerings in order to meet the developmental abilities and interests of library users spanning the ages of birth through adulthood. This position requires close and consistent communication with the Library Director. Additionally, this position will require proficiency in use of our automated library system as well as the ability to assist all library users in front desk circulation responsibilities. This position includes working circulation shifts on a weekly basis in addition to programming facilitation.
Reports to: Library Director
Quarterly Review: to be completed by Library Director
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop programs and work in direct collaboration with Director to ensure program staffing
Create sustainable and consistent programming
Maintain daily communication with Library Director
Strive for programming which has wide-appeal in ages and interests
Assist Director in outreach programming when appropriate, and assist Director in publicity and promotion of library offerings when directed
Work circulation desk shifts, primarily mid-late afternoon
Work periodic Saturdays depending upon circulation desk needs and special events
